Polio took her legs.

Society told her to surrender. She answered by lifting world-class iron.

Born to a poor farming family in West Bengal, Sakina Khatun was diagnosed with polio when she was just a toddler. Growing up, the world constantly reminded her of her physical limitations and financial struggles. People expected her to quietly accept a life of dependence. She completely refused. Instead of surrendering, she found her freedom under the crushing weight of a barbell. Without elite gyms, expensive nutrition, or early sponsors, she built her physical and mental strength through pure, unfiltered defiance.

"SHE DIDN'T JUST LIFT IRON. SHE LIFTED THE WEIGHT OF EVERY EXPECTATION THAT TRIED TO HOLD HER DOWN."

Her absolute refusal to quit took her from a village with no facilities straight to the global stage. At the 2014 Commonwealth Games, she shattered the glass ceiling by becoming the first Indian female para-athlete in history to win a medal. She didn't stop there, powering her way to represent India at the Paralympics, including Paris 2024. She proved that true strength isn't about what life takes away from you; it's about how hard you are willing to push back. Effort Does It.
